A simplified effective synthetic process is described for the diastereoselective synthesis of the chiralC2-symmetric CF3-ureas (R,R)-15 and (S,S)-15 from (S)-α-phenylethylamine, glyoxal and CF3I.
The trifluoromethylation of aryl iodides catalyzed by copper(I) salt with trifluoromethylzinc reagent prepared in situ fromtrifluoromethyliodide and Zn dust was accomplished.
