    Addition of [Et4N]F to Me2SnF2 suspended in CH2Cl2 or CH3CN caused the formation of the organofluorostannate [Et4N][Me4Sn2F5]- which was isolated in pure, crystalline form. The X-ray crystal structure analysis of this compound provides the first example of a linear, fluorine-bridged polyfluorostannate. The structure involves two types of tin (both with octahedral coordination), three types of fluorine atoms (two bridging, one terminal, all equatorial) and two types of methyl groups (both axial). The structure can be formally derived from a so far unknown linear polymeric [Me2SnF3]- anion with four equatorial fluorines (two bridging, two terminal), by bridging of the terminal fluorines of neighbouring monomers via additional Me2SnF2 molecules. Even at low temperatures no NMR spectroscopic signals involving fluorine couplings could be observed, which indicates a rapid exchange of fluorine atoms.

    The reactions of trimethyltin hydride and dimethyltin dihydride with (CH3)3SiCF=CF2 and (CH3)2Si(CF=CF2)2 respectively have been investigated. Under thermal conditions, reaction led to organotin fluorides and fluorovinyl-silanes. However, under ultraviolet irradiation at 25°, addition products were isolated of which (CH3)3SiCFHCF2Sn(CH3)3 and (CH3)3SiCF[Sn(CH3)3]CF2H were fully characterized. Evidence is presented which shows that these addition products are formed by a free radical process and that their decomposition to organotin fluorides and fluorovinyl-silanes proceeds via a β-fluorine elimination. Spectroscopic data are presented for a number of new organo-silanes.
