The simplest thioketene S-oxide, H2CCSO, is prepared in the gas phase through stepwise flash vacuum pyrolysis of vinyl sulfoxide H2C=C(Br)−S(O)CF3 via the intermediacy of vinyl sulfinyl radical H2C=C(Br)−SO. Its stability, structure, and bonding properties are computationally explored.
