Synthetic routes adaptable to the preparation of a variety of d7-labeled monounsaturated and saturated fatty acids are reported. Using these reaction sequences, d7-oleic [18:1 (9c)], d7-elaidic [18:1 (9t)], and d7-stearic acid (18:0) were prepared for use in metabolism studies as stable isotope-labeled tracers.
