Michael addition reactions of trifluoromethyl vinyl sulfone with organic compounds with labile hydrogenatoms are studied. Such additions can be successfully accomplished using potassium fluoride and 18-crown-6-ether or benzyltrimethylammonium hydroxide (Triton B) as catalysts.

Cyclopropanation of trifluoromethyl(sulfinyl, sulfonyl) ethylenes was achieved by utilization of α-bromo- or α,α-dibromo 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds in the presence of bases. DBU was found to be the best choice to get good yields of cyclopropanes with CF3S(O)n (n = 1, 2) groups. First representatives of the cyclopropanes bearing trifluoromethylsulfinyl group were synthesized.
