  Flash vacuum pyrolysis of 2-azidocyclohexanone (1) gave a condensed dimer (6), a ring expanded product (7) and 2-methylpyridine (8). On the other hand, pyrolysis of 2-azidocyclopentanone (4) and 2-azidocycloheptanonc (5) gave ring expanded products (12) and (13), respectively, as the main products.
