    The effects of crystal structure and chemical composition of some Hf2Me intermetallic compounds on their behavior at high hydrogen pressure have been studied. It was shown for Hf2Fe that two ways of hydrogenation reaction were possible depending on the synthesis conditions. New hydrogen-rich hydrides have been obtained in all studied systems and characterized by the X-ray diffraction method. Some speculations on hydrogen localization in high-pressure phases have been proposed.

    Primary Precipitation Phases in Amorphous Hf65Al7.5Ni10Cu17.5 and Hf65Al7.5Ni10Cu12.5M5 (M = Pd and Pt) Alloys

    Amorphous Hf65Al7.5Ni10Cu17.5, Hf65Al7.5Ni10Cu12.5Pd5 and Hf65Al7.5Ni10Cu12.5Pt5 alloys were prepared and their crystallization process was studied with special emphasis on the primary precipitation phases. For the Hf65Al7.5Ni10Cu17.5 and Hf65Al7.5Ni10Cu12.5Pt5 alloys, the primary precipitation phase is a face-centered cubic Hf2Ni (fcc-Hf2Ni) phase. For the Hf65Al7.5Ni10Cu12.5Pd5 alloy, the primary precipitates contain an icosahedral quasicrystalline phase (I-phase) and an fcc-Hf2Ni phase. Further annealing at higher temperature leads to the decomposition of these primary precipitation phases to other stal;lt: crystalline phases, implying that they are in a metastable state. The effect of Pd addition on the precipitation of an I-phase in the amorphous Hf65Al7.5Ni10CU17.5 alloy was discussed based on the evaluation of chemical affinity and atomic radius.

    Abstract The interaction of the MoSi 2 -type intermetallic compounds Zr 2 Pd, Hf 2 Pd and Hf 2 Cu with hydrogen at pressures up to 2000 atm has been investigated. Absorption and desorption isotherms were measured at 293 K. For each system the formation of two hydride phases was established: tetragonal A 2 BH ∼3 and orthorhombic A 2 BH 5.5–6 . The volume expansions for these phases were 8%–10% and 21%–25%

    The isothermal section of the phase diagram of the Hf-Cu-Sb ternary system at 770 K in the whole concentration range has been constructed by means of X-ray analysis. Four ternary intermetallic compounds Hf2CuSb3 (ST Zr2CuSb3), HfCu2.73Sb1.86 (own ST), Hf5CuSb3 (ST Hf5CuSn3) and Hf5Cu0.45Sb2.55 (ST W5Si3) are formed in this system. New HfCu2.73Sb1.86 antimonide crystallizes with hexagonal structure (space group P6(3)/mmc, a = 0.42603(4) nm, c = 1.51139(3) nm). (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V All rights reserved.

    Novel hydride phases with H/M > 1 based on Zr2Pd, Hf2Pd, and Hf2Cu (structures of the MoSi2 type) have been synthesized at high H2 pressures. The X-ray diffraction investigations of the resulting hydrides have been carried out. Some factors determining the maximum hydrogen content in the hydrides of intermetallic compounds are discussed. A model structure of the hydrides obtained is proposed, which assumes the possibility of direct H-H interactions when the interatomic distances are less than 1 Angstrom.
