A DFT study of model cyclohexyloxy radicals (8a-c, 9) show that (a) the presence of an adjacent oxygen atom, and (b) alpha-substituents on the cyclohexyl ring, particularly methoxy, accelerate the rate of beta-scission ring-opening reactions.
