Electrocatalytic reduction of the alkaloids anabasine and nicotine was investigated. 1-alpha,beta'-Dipiperidyl and hexahydronicotine were prepared. The reactions of anabasine and the hydrogenated alkaloids with dicarboxylic acid anhydrides were studied.

Selective, water-permeable membranes for reverse osmosis and nanofiltration are prepared by interfacially polymerizing on a microporous support an essentially monomeric bipiperidine reactant, and an essentially monomeric amine-reactive polyfunctional aromatic or cycloaliphatic acyl halide having on the average at least about 2 acyl halide groups per reactant molecule. The polymerization is optionally carried out in the presence of a monomeric amine salt, which can increase the flux rate of the resulting membrane.

The present disclosure provides approaches for reducing tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNAs) in tobacco. Some of these approaches include genetically engineering tobacco plants to increase one or more antioxidants, increase oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), or reduce nitrite. Also provided are methods and compositions for producing modified tobacco plants and tobacco products therefrom comprising reduced TSNAs.
Compounds of Formula (I) are provided herein. Such compounds, as well as pharmaceutically acceptable salts and compositions thereof, are useful for treating diseases or conditions, including conditions characterized by excessive cellular proliferation, such as breast cancer.
