The authors wished to get two new organosilyl peroxides with a silicon-silicon linkage, t-butylperoxypentamethyldisilane [(CH3)3SiSi(CH3)2(OOC(CH3)3)] and 1, 2-di-t-butylperoxytetramethyldisilane [((CH3)3COO)(CH3)2SiSi(CH3)2(OOC(CH3)3)], by the reaction of the corresponding chlorodisilanes with t-butyl hydroperoxide. The reaction, however, did not give the desired product; rather, it led to the formation of t-butoxypentamethyldisiloxane [(CH3)3SiOSi(CH3)2-(OC(CH3)3)] and 1-t-butoxy-3-t-butylperoxytetramethyldisiloxane [((CH3)3CO)(CH3)2SiOSi-(CH3)2(OOC(CH3)3)] respectively, substances which are believed to have resulted from the intramolecular rearrangement of the desired peroxydisilanes.
