In the presence of lithium and in the solvent tetrahydrofuran (THF), trimethylchlorosilane reacts with acetone and leads to a new compound proceeding to the addition of two trimethylsilyl groups to the carbonyl function. This derivative gives upon hydrolysis the corresponding C-silylated alcohol. This reaction is the first example of direct C-silylation of a saturated aliphatic keton.
