High-yield synthesis of acetyltrimethylgermane (1) facilitated the synthesis of the first germa-β-diketone, 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-2-germa-3,5-heptanedione (tmghdH; 3), and its Cu(II) complex, Cu(tmghd)2 (4).
