    An oxygen-barrier film and an adhesive used therefor. Provided are an adhesive, which can be used for packaging foodstuffs and contains mainly a polyester having excellent oxygen-barrier properties, and an oxygen-barrier film that uses the adhesive. The oxygen-barrier film is prepared using an adhesive that includes: an amorphous polyester polyol, which is obtained by polycondensation of a polyvalent carboxylic acid component including at least one type of ortho-oriented aromatic dicarboxylic acid or anhydride thereof, and a polyhydric alcohol including at least one compound selected from the group consisting of ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, neopentyl glycol and cyclohexanedimethanol, and a curing agent capable of reacting with the amorphous polyester polyol.

    The invention concerns a process for the preparation of tris-(β-hydroxypropyl)-isocyanurate through reaction of propylene oxide with cyanuric acid. According to the invention the reaction is effected in a polyol, which is liquid under the process conditions and in which tris-(β-hydroxypropyl)-isocyanurate is soluble or miscible, in the absence of a catalyst. Preferably a polyol is used which may be used in admixture with tris-(β-hydroxypropyl)-isocyanurate in polyurethane synthesis. The advantages of the process are that the propoxylation does not proceed too far, and that there is no need to remove catalyst residues or solvent.

    The invention concerns the production of crosslinked polyurethane, obtained by reacting one or more polyols and at least one trifunctional crosslinking hydroxyl compound with a polyisocyanate. Products of improved quality, especially strength and heat resistance, are obtained by using tris(β-hydroxypropyl)isocyanurate or its ethoxylated derivative as crosslinking compound and at least one polymeric polyol, with optionally also a low molecular weight diol, as the other hydroxy compounds. Elastomers as well aa foams can be prepared. The process can be carried out by reacting all components together or by prereacting the polyisocyanate with part of the hydroxyl compounds and next adding the remainder.

    A method of preparing a storage-stable one-part reactive liquid thermal curing polymeric coating composition from an isocyanate-functional polymeric compound which has a substantial portion of its isocyanate groups masked with an isocyanate masking agent, and a crosslinking agent which is substantially insoluble in aprotic solvents. These liquid compositions are homogeneous even when free of solvents. Preferably the crosslinking agent is a crystalline polyol. The method involves the synthesis of a solubilizing oligomer which is formed by the partial reaction of the crosslinking agent and the unmasked isocyanate-functional polymeric compound. The thermal curing of these compositions results in polymeric coatings which possess superior physical properties. These cured coatings are particularly useful in the manufacture of retroreflective sheeting.
