A catalytic asymmetric synthesis of the key intermediate of (−)-oppositol 4 and (−)-prepinnaterpene 5, brominated terpenes isolated from the marine red algae, has been achieved from cis-hydrindane derivative 2 obtained by an asymmetric Heck reaction.
