  The invention relates to new arylazo compounds of the wherein R, and R2 independently of each other represent hydrogen or C1-3-alkyl, R3 represent hydrogen, halogen, C1-3-alkyl, C1-3-alkoxy, carboxy, C1-3-alkoxycarbonyl, C1-3- alkylcarbonyl or a group X-NH-SO2-, wherein X represents a heterocyclic ring, R4 represents hydrogen, halogen or C1-3- alkyl, and n is the integer 1 or 2, the two groups being the same or different when n is 2, and lactones and salt thereof. The compounds of formula I have a high inhibiting effect on prostaglandin synthetizing and inactivating enzymes and may therefore be used as a drug and anti-fertility agent. The invention also relates to preparation of the compounds of formula I as well as pharmaceutical compositions containing the same.
