    Convenient Synthesis of N-Trimethylsilylaminotitanium Trichlorides

    Bis(N-trimethylsilylamino)plumbylenes 1 {[Me3Si(R)N](2)Pb with R = Bu-t (a), Me3Si (b), 9-(9-borabicyclo[3.3.1]nonyl) (c)} react smoothly with an excess of TiCl4 to give PbCl2 and N-trimethylsilylaminotitanium trichlorides 3 a-c. In contrast, the analoguous reaction of the corresponding stannylenes 2a-c leads to mixtures containing unidentified Ti-III compounds, the amides 3a or 3b, bis[bis(trimethylsilyl)amino]titanium dichloride 4b and bis(amino)tin dichlorides 5 a-c. The crystal structure of 3a was determined by X-ray structural analysis. Compound 3a is a dimer in the solid state with distorted trigonal pyramidal surroundings of the titanium atoms. Each titanium atom bears two mu(2)-Cl ligands which are in axial (d(Ti-Cl) = 250.7(1) pm) and equatorial positions (dn(Ti-Cl) = 247.0(1) pm) and two terminal chloro ligands, one in axial (d(Ti-Cl) = 228.0(1) pm) and one in equatorial position (da(Ti-Cl) = 221.1(1) pm). The equatorial Ti-N bonds are short (183.8(2) pm).

    Bis(trimethylsilyl)amino-(2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-1,2,5-azadisila-cyclopent-1-yl)-titanium dichloride (3) and bis(2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-1,2,5-azadisila-cyclopent-1-yl)-titanium dichloride (4) were prepared and converted into the di(1-alkynyl)titanium derivatives, (Me3Si)(2)N[(CH2Me2Si)(2)N]Ti(Cequivalent toC-R)(2) (5) and [(CH2Me2Si)(2)N](2)Ti(Cequivalent toC-R)(2) (6) [R = Me (a), Ph (b), SiMe3 (c)]. The reaction of 5a and 5b with trialkylboranes such as Et,B leads almost quantitatively to titana-2,4-cyclopentadienes 7a and 7b, in which a diethylboryl group functions as a substituent in 3-position. In the same manner, 6b reacts with Et3B or Pr3B to titana-2,4-cyclopentadienes 8b or 9b, respectively. It is proposed that these reactions proceed by 1,1-alkylboration. Compound 5c also reacts with Et3B, however, a complex mixture was obtained. All products were characterised by H-1-, B-11-, C-13-, N-15- and Si-29-NMR spectroscopy. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.     N-Trimethylsilylaminotitanium trichlorides, Me3Si(R)N-TiCl3 [R = tBu (2a), SiMe3 (2b), 9-borabicyclo[3.3.1 ]nonyl (9-BBN) (2c)] react with the corresponding plumbylenes 1a - c or with the lithium amides LiN(R)SiMe3 to give the bis(amino)titanium dichlorides 3a - c, and 4 - 6. The titanium dichlorides 4-6 are the first examples, in which the titanium atom bears two different amino groups. The compounds were characterised by a consistent set of 1H, 13C, 14/15N and 29Si NMR data.
