Since the initial discovery by Kubas, dihydrogencomplexes of the transition metals have been the subject of considerable interest since they may serve as models for the very important process of oxidative addition of dihydrogen. In this context, Kubas has recently reported a tungsten complex in which a dihydride is in reversible equilibrium with a dihydrogencomplex. The authors now report further examples
Synthesis and Structure of a Triruthenium Complex Containing a Perpendicularly Coordinated <i>μ</i>3-<i>η</i>2:<i>η</i>2(⊥)-Nitrile Ligand and Its Protonation To Yield a Perpendicularly Coordinated Iminoacyl Ligand
Treatment of the triruthenium pentahydrido complex CP*Ru(mu-H)}(3)(mu(3)-H)(2) (1; Cp* = eta(5)(5-C)Me(5)) with RCN (R = Ph, Bu-t) resulted in the exclusive formation of the mu(3)-eta(2):eta(2)(perpendicular to)-nitrile complex (Cp*RU)(3)(mu(3)-eta(2):eta(2)(perpendicular to)- RCN)(mu(3)-H)(mu-H)(2) (3a, R = Ph; 3b, R = Bu-t) with a coordination geometry of the nitrile ligand perpendicular to one of the Ru-Ru edges. Protonation of 3 quantitatively afforded the cationic mu(3)-iminoacyl complex I(Cp*Ru)(3)(mu(3)-eta(2):eta(2)(perpendicular to)-RCNH)(mu-H)(2)(mu(3)-H)](BF4) (4a, R = Ph; 4b, R = Bu-t), which clearly shows that the lone-pair electrons at the nitrogen atom do not participate in the bonding between the nitrile ligand of 3 and the metal centers.
