An N-diacetyl derivative of neuraminic acid exhibits excellent glycosyl donor properties and is a very useful substrate for the preparation of glycosides of N-acetylneuraminicacid. The donor will be a key component in the preparation of a heptasaccharide derived from group B type III Streptococcus.
