  The present invention provides a method of making sulfur containing fluoroalkyl amines which overcomes the problems previously known methods. Unlike previously known methods, the method of the present invention can achieve higher yields of sulfur containing fluoroalkyl amines without resorting to costly solvents. Furthermore, unlike previously known methods, the method of the present invention can produce oxidized forms of sulfur containing fluoroalkyl amines wherein the sulfur atom thereof is oxidized.

Additionally, the invention provides a method for making a sulfur-containing fluoroalkyl amine comprising the steps of (a) reacting a thiol represented by R1-Q-SH with a /V-vinylamide represented by H2C=CH-(CH2)y-NR-C(O)-R to produce an amide intermediate represented by RrQ-S-C(H)1(CH3)J-(CH2)z+(1-1)-NR-C(O)-R; (b) optionally reacting the amide intermediate with an oxidizing agent to produce a sulfur oxide intermediate represented by RrQ-S(O)x-C(H)1(CH3)1-(CH2)z+(1-1)-NR-C(O)-R and (c) subjecting the amide intermediate or the sulfur oxide intermediate to deacylation to produce the sulfur-containing fluoroalkyl amine.
