uridine in dimethyl sulfoxide (Me 2 SO) lead to the reduction of gold(III) to gold(I) and to the formation of the corresponding 5-bromopyrimidine. In Me 2 SO containing water the 5-bromo-6-hydroxy-5,6-dihydro-pyrimidine is also formed.
