Reactions of Me3N with GeH3Br: evidence for stabilized germanium dihydride species

°C, solid 1 undergoes intramolecular rearrangement to a product characterized as Me3NHBr·1/x(GeH2)x (4), a material which contains stabilized GeH2 units. The characterization of 1–4 based on their spectral properties and reactivity towards B2H6 and/of HBr, and their potential in further germane syntheses, are discussed.
