Ethylene oxide, propene oxide, cyclohexene oxide, trimethylene oxide, and tetrahydrofuran react with a variety of linear and cyclic silicon–sulphur compounds to produce a range of monomeric and polymeric alkoxysilanes. β-Propiolactone undergoes alkyl–oxygen fission to insert into silicon–sulphur bonds.
