A naphthalocyanine derivative of formula (I):
wherein M is Si, Ge or Sn; the groups Y are the same or different and each is R2O or R3R4R5SiO; k,ℓ, m and n are the same or different and each is zero or an integer of 1 to 4, provided that (k + t + m + n) is 1 or greater; the groups R1 are the same or different; and Ri, R2, R3, R4 and R5 are the same or different and each is cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, hydrogen, aryl, alkoxy, aryloxyl straightchain alkyl, branched chain alkyl or alkenyl; provided that at least one of R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5 is cycloalkyl or cycloalkylalkyl is an effective substance for forming a recording layer on a substrate of an optical recording medium having high sensitivity with good properties.
