Rare earth cyanurates were prepared by exothermic solid-state metathesis reactions of appropriate proportions of A(OCN) (A = K, Rb, Cs) and RECl3 (RE = La, Ce, Pr) at 500 °C. A DTA study of this mixture revealed the reaction to occur around 450 °C. The crystal structure of RbLa2Cl(O3C3N3)2 was refined from a powder X-ray diffraction pattern.
