  A convenient method for the synthesis of symmetrical azobenzenes is reported. This one-step procedure involves treatment of anilines with N-chlorosuccinimide (NCS) and organic base 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU). A wide range of commercially available substituted anilines readily participate in this reaction to produce the corresponding azobenzenes in moderate-to-excellent yields in minutes

  The oxidation of several fluoroanilines with potassium ferricyanide and potassium hydroxide is described. In this oxidation, the major products are fluoroazobenzenes. In the case of 2-fluoro-substituted anilines, heterocyclic fluorophenazines were obtained in low to moderate yields.   corresponding pentafluorophenylarenes, but a 57% yield of 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluoro(phenoxy)biphenyls is obtained from the hydrazine and silver oxide in molten diphenyl ether. The isomer ratio for the last reaction has been determined. Unambiguous syntheses of the two pentafluorophenylnaphthalenes and the three 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluoro(phenoxy)biphenyls are described.
