Multinucleus NMR characterization of new silylamines and their corresponding lithium silylamides

A series of linear silylamines R'Me2Si-NMe-SiMe(R)-NHMe (R, R' = Me, Vi or Ph) has been synthesized, as well as their corresponding lithium silylamides. They all have been analyzed by H-1-,C-13-, Si-29-, N-15- and Li-7-NMR, in order to characterize the changes of electronic density in the molecules induced either by the silicon group or by the formation of the negative charge on the nitrogen atom. These changes give information about the nature of the [Si-N] or [Si-C] bonds. More particularly, a strong influence of the vinyl group on [-MeViSi-NHMe] has been observed, both in the silylamine and the corresponding silylamide. Indeed, in this case, the variations of the chemical shifts might be related to a 'delocalization' of the negative charge from nitrogen to silicon and the vinyl group. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
