    The effect of rotary-shear deformation during powders compacting on the decomposition of supersaturated Ni(Nb,B) and Ni(Mo,B) solid solutions is studied. The metastable fcc solid solutions were synthesized by mechanical alloying (MA) of the mixtures of components of Ni75Nb12B13 and Ni73Mo14B13 compositions. The powders were compacted on a Bridgman anvil. Col plastic deformation action is realized by using this technique. As a result the initial structure of nonequilibrium supersaturated solid solutions changed.The data of X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscopy showed a partial decomposition of Ni(Nb, B) and Ni(Mo, B) solid solutions, which leads to the formation of cubic boride tau phases - Ni21Nb2B6 with a lattice parameter of a = 1.0572 nm and, correspondingly, Ni21Mo2B6 phase with a lattice parameter of a = 1.0498 nm. The tau phase probably forms coherently to the fcc crystal lattice of solid solution because of its lattice parameter is equal to three lattice parameter of nickel. According to the data of local X-ray spectral analysis, the compacted alloys are heterogeneous and are contained boron-reach and also niobium- and molybdenum-rich regions. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V.     Phase relations in the Nb-Ni-Sb system at 1070 K are studied by x-ray diffraction. The results confirm the existence of the ternary compound Nb28Ni33.5Sb12.5 (new structure type), which is shown to have a narrow homogeneity range. The system contains no solid solutions based on binary compounds, as evidenced by structural analysis data for NiSb and NbSb2 in three-phase Nb-Ni-Sb samples.

    The isothermal section of the phase diagram of the ternary system La-Ni-Nb at 673 K has been investigated by X-ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis, optical microscopy, and electron microscopy techniques. It consists of 14 single-phase regions, 25 two-phase regions, and 12 three-phases regions. At 673 K, the maximum solid solubilities of Nb in Ni, LaNi5, LaNi7, LaNi3, La7Ni16, and LaNi3 is about 3, 5, 2, 3, 3, and 2 at.% Nb, respectively. The composition range of the Nb in NbNi3 is about from 23.5 to 27 at.% Nb. No ternary compounds were observed. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
