  Abstract The structure of ovoic acid, a new tridepside from the lichen Parmelia substygia Ras. has been elucidated as 2′- O -methylgyrophoric acid by 13 C and 1 H NMR, by UV spectroscopy and by hydrolysis to orsellinic and isoeverninic acids.
