reaction of hexa-tert-butyldimetallanes (tBu3E-EtBu3; E = Si, Ge, Sn) with trityl tetraarylborates in pivalonitrile or acetonitrile gave tri-tert-butylmetalyl cation nitrile complexes, [tBu3E+(NC-R)], by oxidative E-E bond cleavage. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods and X-ray crystallography.
