Reactions of methylchlorodisilanes with Grignard reagents

Reactions of Cl(2)MeSiSiMeCl(2) with RMgCl make it possible to obtain and isolate pure disilanes containing a smaller number of functional groups, namely, RMeClSiSiMeCl(2) (R = Ph), RMeClSiSiMeRCl (R = Pr-i, Ph), and R(2)MeSiSiMeRCl (R = Bu(i)). The reaction of Cl(2)MeSiSiMeCl(2) with Bu(n)MgCl is the feast selective. The chlorides obtained were reduced with LiAlH4 into the corresponding hydrides.
