A process produces 1,3-oxazolidine derivatives by reacting an imine derivative of the following formula (1):
with an epoxy compound of the following formula (2):
to yield an oxazolidine derivative of the following formula (3):
A compound of Group 3 elements of the Periodic Table of Elements, or other metallic compounds can be used as a catalyst. In the formulae, R1, R2, R4, R5, R6, and R7 are each, independently, a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group, or a heterocyclic group, and R3 is a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group, a heterocyclic group, a hydroxyl group, a substituted oxy group, or an amino group which may have a substituent, where a combination of R1 and R2, R4 and R5, R6 and R7, or R4 and R6 may be combined to form a ring with the adjacent carbon atom or carbon-carbon bond. The process can easily yield 1,3-oxazolidine derivatives from readily available materials.
