Effect of anomalous aryl strengthening in the series of N-phosphorylureas

Within the series of model N-diorganophosphoryl-N'-n-octylureas, the ability to extract uranium(VI) from nitric acid solutions is maximal for N-diphenylphosphoryl derivative and sharply decreases when phenyl groups are replaced with n-alkyl or cycloalkyl substituents; this indicates the presence of 'anomalous aryl strengthening' effect also in the series of N-phosphorylureas, a new promising class of organophosphorus extractants.

The oxidative halogenation of diaryl- or dialkylphosphine oxides with the hypervalent iodine reagents (difluoroiodo)toluene (p-TolIF2, 1) and (dichloroiodo)benzene (PhICl2, 2) is reported. The invention provides a process for producing a β-dihydrofuran derivative represented by formula (1) or a β-tetrahydrofuran derivative represented by formula (4), characterized in that the process includes causing a dialkyl dicarbonate, a diaralkyl dicarbonate, or a halide to act on a diol compound represented by formula (2) or (3).
