A process for producing an optical film, in which an optical film excelling in haze, luminescent spot foreign matter and dimensional stability in hot moisture can be produced uniformly on a large scale; an optical film obtained by the process; and a polarization plate or image display unit utilizing the optical film. There is provided a process for producing an optical film, characterized in that the optical film is produced through the steps of carrying out heating fusion and blending of a resin and particles to thereby obtain a mixed material of resin and particles; dissolving the mixed material in a solvent to thereby obtain a resin solution; and preparing an optical film from the resin solution according to a solution casting technique.
