  Mono- and dialkylferrocenes are readily prepared by the nucleophilic substitution of n-alkyl halides with lithioferrocenes. The products can be purified by short-path distillation or recrystallization. Three alkylferrocenes were prepared by this synthetic strategy and characterized by cyclic voltammetry in aqueous solution. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
