An efficient, one-pot protocol for the synthesis of aminofurazans from readily available and inexpensive bromomethyl ketones has been developed. Alkyl, aryl and heteroaryl aminofurazans have been synthesized and characterized by multinuclear NMR and single crystal X-ray crystallography.

Short-time reactions of 3-amino-4-R-furazans with 2,5-dimethoxytetrahydrofuran in boiling acetic acid afford (pyrrol-1-yl)furazans. One of the products was characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis.

The palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of 3-[bromo(het)aryl]furazans and bromobenzofurazans with arylboronic acids afford target biaryls in good yields. 3-Bromo-4-phenylfurazan containing a bromine atom in the furazan ring undergoes decomposition under the reaction conditions.
