  Reactions of 3,5-diaryl-1,2-dithiolium salts 1 with alkali cyclopentadienides 2 lead to a scission of the S,S-bond followed by an intramolecular Diels Alder addition to yield the tricyclic products 4. These rearrange readily to the more stable isomers 5.
