phosphorylation of hydroxy groups by polyphosphoric acids is shown to be inhibited by carboxyl functions, but the phosphorylation of hydroxy acids can be realized by using their esters, amides or nitriles; the phosphorylated derivatives obtained yield the phosphohydroxy acids either by selective hydrolysis or – for the amides – by reaction with nitrous acid.
