From a search for high-temperature oxidation-resistant materials, the development of tetraboron silicide, B/sub 4/Si, is reported. This silicide of boron can be prepared in large quantities. Shapes fabricated from B/sub 4/Si by powder metallurgical techniques have withstood oxidation in air for over 100 hours at 137O deg C.
