3-Phosphono-2-(N-cyanoimino)thiazolidine derivatives, new phosphorylating agents for alcohols

We have developed new phosphorylating agents, 3-phosphono-2-(N-cyanoimino)-thiazolidine derivatives (3-phosphono-NCTs), which were readily synthesized by phosphorylation of NCT, and transformed primary and secondary alcohols into phosphates in good yield. The transfer of three kinds of dialkylphosphono groups [(PhO)(2)P(O)-, (EtO)(2)P(O)-, (Cl3CCH2O)(2)P(O)-] proceeded in excellent yields. Selective phosphorylation of various alcohols was also accomplished. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
B(C6F5)3 as a Highly Effective Catalyst for the Phosphoryl Transfer Reaction

The phosphoryltransferreactions of diphenyl chlorophosphate with a wide range of alcohols were catalyzed by tris(pentafluorophenyl)boron [B(C6F5)3], giving the corresponding phosphate esters in excellent yields. This methodology has advantages over older ones because it employs the easily handled B(C6F5)3, avoids the side reaction, and has shorter reaction time.

Organocatalyzed Amine-Free <i>O</i>-Phosphorylation of Alcohols with 4-Methylpyridine <i>N</i>-Oxide
Amine-free phosphorylation of various alcohols was developed with 4-methylpyridine N-oxide in the presence of 4 Å molecular sieves at room temperature. This mild method gave various phosphorylated products in high yield and could be applied to acid- or base-sensitive substrates.
