The present invention relates to a method of purifying olefin, the method comprising removing a small amount of acetylenic compounds contained in olefin by using pyrrolidinium-based or piperidinium-based ionic liquid mixtures comprising copper (I) halide. According to the method of the present invention, copper (I) halide is stabilized by pyrrolidinium-based or piperidinium-based ionic liquids, suppressing the oxidation of Cu(I) into Cu(II), whereby the capacity of removing acetylenic compounds can be maintained for a long time and the selective removal rate of acetylenic compounds to olefin can be significantly improved. In addition, since the ionic liquid mixtures comprising copper (I) halide used in the method of the present invention can be applied to both absorption and extraction processes, it can effectively remove acetylenic compounds from olefin in a more simple and economical way compared to the existing adsorption and membrane separation processes.

We report the synthesis, characterization and cellulose dissolution properties of a series of ionic liquids bearing alkyl and hydroxyl-functionalized imidazolium and pyrrolidinium cations, and dialkyl phosphate anions. Ionic liquids that dissolve cellulose have anions that are excellent hydrogen bond acceptors. Based on this study, it is clear that the cation also plays a role. Cellulose dissolution was achieved in the imidazolium ionic liquids but not in the pyrrolidinium ionic liquids. Thermogravimetric analysis results show that most of the ILs are thermally stable up to 240 degrees C and thus are more suitable solvents for high temperature applications than most organic solvents. Imidazolium ILs are less viscous and slightly more thermally stable than the pyrrolidinium ILs of the same chain length.

Embodiments of the invention relate to a method for operating a steam cycle process performed in an apparatus having an evaporator or steam generator for the evaporation of a liquid working medium and an expander, which is lubricated by a lubricant, for the performance of mechanical work. The method comprises a) supplying the liquid working medium to the evaporator, in which it evaporates and is fed to the expander in the form of steam; b) supplying an ionic liquid, which at room temperature forms two liquid phases with the liquid working medium, to the expander as a lubricant; and c) separating the ionic liquid forming the lubricant for the expander from the working medium upstream of the evaporator.
