The reactions of phenylchlorocarbene (PCC) and diphenylcarbene (DPC) with carbon-chlorine bonds were investigated by laser flash photolysis techniques, product studies, and electrochemical methods. The data with both carbenes are consistent with a polar chlorine atom transfer to form radical pairs.
