用作媒染剂、纺织品的防火剂、增重剂，以及制造陶瓷、玻璃，并用于镀锡等。本品是碱性镀锡的主要盐类之一，与氢氧化钠组成的络盐溶解在镀锡溶液中。当溶液通电时，锡离子包含在阴络离子中，在阳极上直接还原。一般用量为75～90 kg/L，也可用于氰化物镀铜锡合金和焦磷酸盐、锡酸盐、铜锡合金的电镀辅助主盐。此外，本品在印染行业中用作媒染剂和沉淀色素，并应用于陶瓷、玻璃及防火织物制造。

生产方法
将446 kg（99.5%）锡、320 kg（90%）苛性钠及105 kg（95%）硝酸钠依次加入反应锅中，加热至300 ℃。待温度升至800 ℃时停止加热，并继续搅拌直至物料发火。经0.5小时的发火后冷却出锅。将粗品加水溶解，再加入硫化钠除铅、过氧化氢除铁。最后进行真空过滤、浓缩、离心脱水并干燥粉碎得成品。

反应式为：
