This was achieved largely by way of a method for bleaching cellulosic material in the presence of a peroxygen-containing bleaching agent and a bleach-boosting transition metal complex, which is carried out in the presence of spherical polyelectrolyte brushes. The spherical polyelectrolyte brushes preferably contain the transition metal complex in a colloidally bound manner.
