The effect of bis(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl)-3-chloro-2,2- dibromomethyl -1-propyl phosphate (MC984) was examined in the dominant lethal assay in rats. Ten male Charles River rats received 1.1 g/kg test article in corn oil 1x daily for 5 consecutive days and were then mated. A statistically significant (t-test, p < 0.05) increase in the proportion of dead to total implants was observed in pregnant females when matings occurred 1 week after treatment. The proportion of females with one or more, or two or more dead implantations, and the average number of resorptions, preimplantation losses, corpora lutea, and implantations per pregnant female were not statistically significantly different from controls in females impregnated within 1 to 7 weeks after treatment. Significant toxic effects of MC984 were not observed during the test, although the investigators observed toxic effects (type and degree not specified) in a previous study at 1.6 g/kg/day.
