Abstract The oxidation of tartronate and mesoxalate ion by permanganate has been studied in 0.1–2.0 M aqueous NaOH. Manganate(VI) ion is formed in the first rapid phase, which is kinetically first order with respect to both MnO 4 − and the substrate. The second-order rate constant depends on the OH − ion concentration, which implies higher reactivity of the species with deprotonated 2-hydroxy groups

IT has previously been shown1 that in the presence of barium producing insoluble barium manganate, the decomposition of permanganate is of the first order with respect to: (a) the permanganate and (b) the hydroxide ion concentration. In the absence of barium the initial rate of decomposition as determined by means of the rotating disk method was found to be proportional to (a) the permanganate concentration
A Chromate(VI) Oxide Ceramics Na8[Al6Si6O24](CrO4) with Zeolitic Nosean Structure and Pigment Properties The cages of the zeolitic sodalite lattice can be occupied by half by the tetrahedral CrO42— group, yielding a thermally stable, intense lemon-yellow pigment, in which the colour centres are shielded completely from the atmosphere. The analyses yielded compositions Na8[Al6+2δSi6—2δO24](CrO4)1—δ
The decomposition of manganate(VII) in an alkalinesolution was significantly enhanced by the addition of hydrous manganese(IV) oxide or metal ions, such as Ni(II) and Co(II). On the other hand, the inhibitive effect of the tellurate(VI) ion on the decomposition was found even in the presence of the additives described above.
