    Provided is a resin composition that is capable of producing a cured product having excellent environmental suitability, high strength, and excellent flame retardancy, and that is suitably usable as a matrix resin for fiber-reinforced plastics. A resin composition contains (A) an epoxy resin, (B) a cyanate resin, (C) an aromatic amine curing agent that is liquid at 25° C., and (D) a phosphorus-containing compound represented by formula (1). Preferably, in formula (1), R 1 and R 2 each independently represent an alkyl group or an aryl group, and X and Y are an oxygen atom.

    The invention provides an expanded plastics material having distributed therethrough a fire-resistant powder (as defined herein). The invention also provides a metod of manufacturing expanded plastics material, comprising: subjecting expandable beads or granules of the plastics material to pre-expansion; and subsequently moulding the pre-expanded beads or granules; wherein prior to the moulding, the beads or granules are mixed with a fire-resistant powder. The invention also provides a method of manufacturing a polyurethane foam, comprising mixing a fire-resistant powder (as herein defined) with a polyester or polyether having free hydroxy groups and effecting reaction of the polyester or polyether with a di- or triisocyanate to form the polyurethane foam.

    There is provided a curable resin having an unsaturated group and a carboxyl group at the terminals of its side chains, such as a curable resin obtained by reacting an unsaturated group-containing monocarboxylic acid (d) with a reaction product (c) of a compound having three or more phenolic hydroxyl groups in its molecule (a) and an alkylene oxide (b) and further reacting a polybasic acid anhydride (f) with the resultant reaction product (e). By compounding such a curable resin with a photopolymerization initiator, a photosensitive (meth)acrylate compound, an epoxy compound, a diluent solvent, another curable resin which has a carboxyl group and an unsaturated group in its molecule and which is in the state of solid at room temperature, a flame-retardant, etc., there is obtained a photocurable and thermosetting resin composition which is useful for the formation of a solder resist of a printed circuit board, an interlaminar insulating layer of a multi-layer circuit board, or the like.
