By reaction of pentacarbonyltetrafluoroboratorhenium with the neutral methylated xanthine derivatives the cationic complexes [(OC)(5)Re-L]+BF4- (L = caffeine, isocaffeine, theophylline, theobromine) were prepared and spectroscopically characterized.

The azadiene-iron complex (η4-1-azabuta-1,3-diene)tricarbonyliron (1) acts as a substitute for cyclopentadiene. New sandwich and half-sandwich compounds 2−9 are prepared. Refluxing 1 affords two diasteromeric bis(azaferracyclopentadienyl)iron(II) compounds 2 and 3. Reaction of 1 with [CpFe(CO)2]2, Re(CO)5BF4, and Mn2(CO)10 yields half-sandwich compounds 6, 7, and 8, respectively. Photochemical reaction
The organometallic Lewis acids (OC)5Re+ and CP(OC)(Ph3P)Ru+ form adducts with the O- and N-donors H2O, EtOH, THF, acetone, CH3CN, carboxylic esters, NCCH2CO2Me, BrCH2CO2Me, gamma-valerolactone, delta-valerolactam, epsilon-caprolactam, benzophenone imine. The chiral ethanol complex [Cp(OC)(Ph3P)Ru(HOEt)]+BF4- crystallizes as pairs of enantiomers S(Ru)S(O) and R(Ru)R(O) and the single crystal X-ray determination shows a hydrogen bridge between the oxygen atom of coordinated ethanol and the tetrafluoroborate anion.
