    Abstract

    Treatment of Ln2(SO4)3·nH2O (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm. Eu, Gd ; n = 8, 9) with phenelzine dihydrogen sulfate, (phzH2) SO4, in 1N H2SO4 yields polymeric complexes with the general formula [Ln(SO4)2(H2O)2(phzH)], which contain the phzH+ cation as a ligand. The compounds have been characterized by elem ental analyses, X-ray powder patterns, thermal methods, magnetic susceptibilities and spectroscopic (IR, Raman, electronic diffuse reflectance and solid-state emission f-f spectra) studies. The prepared complexes most probably consist of 7-coordinated units, formed by four bridging bidentate sulfato groups, two terminal aqua molecules and one cationic phzH+ ligand.

    New series of [Ln2 (pydc)2(SO4) (H2O)x]·yH2O (H2pydc = 2,5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid), differing in number of the coordinating (x) and the crystallizing (y) water, have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized: (i) x = 2, y = 6, and Ln = La, Pr and Nd; (ii) x = 3, y = 2 and Ln = Pr and Nd; and (iii) x = y = 0 and Ln = Pr and Nd. Influences of the subtle change in reaction temperature (80–180 °C)

  • Hydrothermal equilibria and crystal chemistry of phases in the oxide-hydroxide-sulfate systems of La, Pr, and Nd

    structures form in hydrothermal media. X-ray diffraction data indicate that the n = 7 hydrates of La and Pr and the monohydrate of La have closely related orthorhombic structures similar to that of the anhydrous La2(SO4)3 phase obtained by decomposition of the hydrates at low temperature. The n = 5 sulfate hydrates of Pr and Nd have also been characterized, and a metastable La2(OH)4SO4 phase has been identified

    Molybdenum was isomorphically substituted by sulfur in La2Mo2O9. This kind of doping generated a new family of La2Mo2-ySyO9 (0.1≤y≤0.3) materials synthesized at the solid-state. Compounds were structurally characterized and refined according to their composition. The cubic β -form of La2Mo2O9 was thermally stabilized for sulfur content≥5 mol %.
