Abstract The magnetic susceptibility of RB2C2 has been measured in the temperature range of 3–300 K. Curie-Weiss fits to the susceptibilities led to effective moments in agreement with those expected for R3+ ions. The RB2C2 (R = Ce, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Er, and Tm) compounds are antiferromagnetic.
