    There are provided a novel compound having an 3,4-epoxytricyclo[5.2.1.02,6]decane skeleton and a polymerizable unsaturated bond, and a process for the preparation of the compound. There is also provided a copolymer including a monomeric unit (A) containing an alkali-soluble group, and a monomeric unit (B) corresponding to an epoxy-containing polymerizable unsaturated compound, or a copolymer including, in addition to the monomeric units (A) and (B), a monomeric unit (C) corresponding to an epoxy-free polymerizable unsaturated compound such as a N-substituted maleimide, in which the monomeric unit (B) occupies 40 to 90 percent by weight of total monomeric units, and 30 percent by weight or more of the monomeric unit (B) is a monomeric unit corresponding to a specific 3,4-epoxytricyclo[5.2.1.02,6]decane skeleton-containing compound. The copolymer can yield a film excellent typically in thermal stability, yield a resin composition having very high storage stability, and be easily synthetically prepared.

    An object of the present invention is to rapidly produce condensates of various silane compounds containing different organic substituents by accelerating condensation reactions of the silane compounds containing hydrolyzable silyl groups without using acid or base catalysts. The present invention relates to a method for producing a siloxane resin, including: hydrolyzing and condensing a silane compound (B) containing a hydrolyzable silyl group represented by formula (I) below using a neutral salt (A) as a catalyst, the formula (I) being: RnSiX4-n wherein R represents an organic group having a carbon atom directly bonded to Si; X represents a hydroxyl group or a hydrolyzable group; and n represents an integer of 0-3, provided that when n is 2 or greater, each R may be the same as or different from each other, and when (4-n) is 2 or greater, each X may be the same as or different from each other.

    A condensation product having a high epoxy group residual ratio is obtained by accelerating, with use of neither an acid catalyst nor a base catalyst, hydrolysis and condensation reaction of a silyl group in a silane compound containing an epoxy structure-containing group. Then, a cured product is formed, which has high abrasion resistance, high chemical resistance and low cure shrinkage. The condensation product is synthesized from silane compounds at a specific ratio in the presence of a neutral salt catalyst, which silane compounds are represented by General Formula (I) and General Formula (II), respectively, and then cured with use of a curing agent which cures an epoxy group.

    A method for producing a siloxane resin, by hydrolyzing and condensing a silane compound containing a hydrolyzable silyl group represented by RnSiX4-n using a neutral salt as a catalyst. In the formula RnSiX4-n, R represents an organic group having a carbon atom directly bonded to Si, X represents a hydroxyl group or a hydrolyzable group, and n represents an integer of 0 to 3, provided that when n is 2 or greater each R may be the same as or different from each other, and when (4-n) is 2 or greater, each X may be the same as or different from each other.

    A curable composition includes a condensation product having a weight average molecular weight of 30,000 or less and a curing agent, the condensation product being obtained by hydrolysis and condensation of a first and second silane compound in the presence of a neutral salt catalyst. The condensation product also has a ratio Y/X of 0.2 or less, wherein X is the number of moles of an OR3 group directly bonded to silicon atoms of the first and second silane compounds, and Y is the number of moles of an OR3 group directly bonded to a silicon atom of the condensation product. The first silane compound is represented by R1—(SiR2a(OR3)3-a), and the second silane compound is represented by R4—(SiR2a(OR3)3-a).
